Woman treated, released after 3-car wreck on I-74

ST. JOSEPH — One woman was treated and released from Carle Hospital in Urbana for injuries she received in a three-vehicle accident on Interstate 74 Thursday morning.

Illinois State Police at Pesotum said the accident happened at 7:52 a.m. on I-74 eastbound just east of St. Joseph.

Police said traffic was backed up due to an earlier accident that was blocking the right lane about a mile further east.

Kevin Hedden, 44, of Davenport, Iowa, was stopped in his semitrailer tractor truck and Hilary Edgerly, 34, of Champaign, was almost stopped behind him, when a sport utility vehicle ran into the back of Edgerly's car.

Nicole Gropp, 42, of Champaign, hit Edgerly's car, sending it into the back of the semi.

Gropp was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and taken to Carle for her injuries.

Edgerly and Hedden were not injured, police said.

All three were wearing seat belts.
