Broadlands board could raise water rates next week

BROADLANDS — Residents could be paying more for their water.

At the October meeting the board discussed increasing water rates. At this time residents are billed $42 for the first 1,500 gallons of water they use and then $6 for every 1,000 gallons over that amount.

The village has absorbed four rate increases from the Embarras Area Water District over the past five years and has been running at a loss for some time. The village is paying Embarrass $8.18 per 1,000 gallons at 700,000 gallons a month.

The village is considering increasing the water rate $1 per every 1,000 gallons.

Residents are encouraged to attend to voice concerns or questions about this increase at the next village board meeting on Nov. 6.
