Man arrested over stolen bicycles

URBANA — A Champaign man who police say pawned bicycles that had been reported stolen has been charged with theft over $500.

Urbana police investigator Tim McNaught said Michale P. Richter, 35, who listed an address in the 200 block of Edgebrook Drive, was arrested Thursday at the Pawn King store, 1004 W. University Ave., U.

McNaught said on Oct. 26, police received reports of two bicycles having been stolen from near the downtown Urbana parking deck. The owner of one of the bicycles located hers at Pawn King two days later. Police learned that Richter was the man who pawned it for $100 on Oct. 26.

Pawn King employees called police Thursday when Richter returned with another bicycle. He told police he got it from a friend.

Police found a cut cable lock in the pocket of his jacket.

He was charged Friday with a single count of felony theft.
