Two-vehicle crash causes injuries, closes street

CHAMPAIGN —A driver was ticketed Monday for failure to obey a traffic signal after a collision at Church Street and Country Fair Drive.

Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said police were called to the scene at about 8:50 a.m.

She said the police report is not available yet, but it appears one driver disobeyed a traffic signal, causing a collision. That driver was ticketed.

A passenger in the other vehicle had to be cut out and was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Dunn said.

Champaign police cleared the scene at about 10:50 Monday morning.

A News-Gazette photographer on the scene reported that Country Fair Drive had been closed north of Church Street and Church was down to one lane as drivers headed west toward Interstate 72.

The photographer said he saw two vehicles involved in the accident: one that came to rest in a grass field south of R.P. Lumber, which is northwest of the intersection.

The other vehicle remained in the intersection.
