Man injured in DUI-related wreck on U.S. 45 south of Savoy
SAVOY - A Monticello man was injured late Wednesday after his vehicle was hit from behind by an alleged drunken driver.
Champaign County sheriff's Sgt. Dave Sherrick said Ryan Perry, 40, was southbound on U.S. 45 just north of the Monticello Road at 10:55 p.m. when he noticed a car coming up behind him fast.
Sherrick said Perry tapped his brakes to alert the driver behind him but was struck in the rear with such force that his sport utility vehicle was knocked off the road to the west and rolled on to its roof.
The driver of the car behind, Lindsay Jackson, 28, also of Monticello, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. She was also given a ticket for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Sherrick said a deputy saw Jackson's car in the middle of the road and initially thought she was having car problems, then discovered Perry's vehicle on its roof. He was apparently able to get out on his own, Sherrick said.
Perry was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition Thursday morning.
Sherrick said Jackson submitted to chemical testing but the results were not available.
The road was blocked for about 45 minutes while the debris from the collision was cleaned up, Sherrick said.
