Danville man indicted for 2012 murder

DANVILLE — A 27-year-old Danville man was scheduled to make an initial appearance in Vermilion County Circuit Court Friday afternoon in connection with a May 2012 fatal shooting.

A Vermilion County grand jury earlier this week indicted Edward S. Woodfork on three counts of first-degree murder for the May 13, 2012, death of Larry Carter, 26, of Danville.

Woodfork is the only suspect in the case, Public Safety Director Larry Thomason said in a release.

Danville police found Woodfork in the 600 block of North Vermilion Street in Danville around 9:55 p.m. Thursday and arrested him without incident, Thomason said.

Vermilion County State’s Attorney Randy Brinegar said Woodfork was scheduled to be in court, where a judge will read his charges to him and set a date for his formal arraignment.

Danville police found Mr. Carter lying in the front yard of a residence in the 500 block of Robinson Street after receiving a call of shots fired in that area.

At the time, police said Mr. Carter, who lived nearby, and the shooter apparently knew one other. A witness or witnesses reported seeing a vehicle stop near Mr. Carter, see one person get out and approach Mr. Carter, and then heard gunshots.
