Meet-and-greet to help with finding new doctor

CHAMPAIGN — If you'd rather not meet your new doctor for the first time in an exam room, how about at a party instead, while the two of you nosh on hors d'oeuvres?

Christie Clinic and Presence Covenant Medical Center are offering patients looking to change doctors an opportunity to meet and mingle with a bunch of them all at once at a free meet-and-greet later this month.

It will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Presence Covenant Medical Center auditorium, 1400 W. Park St., U.

Covenant spokeswoman Gina Marsh said 13 Christie doctors in both primary care and specialties from Champaign-Urbana and Danville have committed to the evening so far, and more may be joining them.

"The kind of impetus behind it is, you know, if you have to switch, or if you're looking for a new doctor, it's kind of a crapshoot, quite frankly," she said.

This is the first time the hospital and clinic are trying a social event complete with appetizers to help make the process of finding a new doctor less stressful for patients, Marsh said.

"We'll see how it goes. We're hoping for the best," she added. "The physicians seemed open to trying it as well."

What if you already have a doctor? You can still come to this event, Marsh says.

But all patients intending to choose a new doctor should come prepared to ask questions to find a doctor that will be right for them, the hospital and clinic advise.

While the event is free, the hospital and clinic are asking people to call and reserve a place by calling 1-877-737-4636.
