Reception set for chief justice

DANVILLE — A reception for Rita B. Garman, chief justice of the Illinois Supreme Court, will be hosted by the Vermilion County Republican Women's Club.

The event will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at St. James United Methodist Church, 504 N. Vermilion St., Danville. Garman has been a long-standing member of the Vermilion County Republican Women. A former Vermilion County Circuit Court judge, Garman was appointed to the Illinois Supreme Court in 2001 and was elected in 2002 and retained in 2012. She began her new position as chief justice Oct. 28.
