Man sent to prison after failing probation

URBANA — A Champaign man who admitted he failed at probation by continuing to use drugs was resentenced Tuesday to five years in prison.

Champaign County Judge Heidi Ladd imposed the sentence on James Lassiter, 50, whose last known address was in the 4100 block of Amherst Drive.

Lassiter admitted in October that he violated the probation he received in August 2012 for possession with intent to deliver heroin. Among his admitted failings was regular reporting to a probation officer, being discharged from a drug treatment program, and continued use of heroin in August and September 2012 and February 2013.

Court records show Lassiter has prior convictions for possession of a firearm without a firearm owner's identification card, battery, domestic battery, possession of a controlled substance, forgery and possession with intent to deliver cannabis.
