Some Urbana Police officers ditching the razor this month for a good cause

Some Urbana Police officers are nearly half way through a month without shaving for a good cause.

Members of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 70 represent active and retired members of the Urbana Police Department.  President of that lodge, Urbana Police Officer Dan Bailey, said about 24 officers, or nearly half of the department, is participating in the "No Shave November" event where they can grow a full beard or a goatee to raise money for the fight against cancer.  Each officer has donated $25 to the American Cancer Society, which will be matched by the FOP Lodge.

Bailey said nearly everyone has been impacted by cancer in some way.

Bailey added that normally officers can have mustaches, but they are not allowed to have full beards or goatees.  He said that this is the first year the Urbana Police Department has participated in "No Shave November," but he said he would like to make it an annual event.
