PBL discusses tech devices for classes

PAXTON — The school board discussed this week the possibility of instituting tablets or smart devices, such as smartphones or iPads, for use in classrooms.

There were two categories discussed — a bring-your-own-device policy and a one-to-one initiative, in which the products would be provided by the school.

"There's been a lot of ideas and innovations and findings in that area in the past four to five years," Superintendent Cliff McClure said. "We just thought of some different things of what we would need to get a one-to-one initiative off the ground. We're not sitting here telling you that we would be a one-to-one, but we believe it's at least worth looking at."

McClure said it would be six to nine months before a decision would be made on the idea. In the meantime, there is a plan on setting up a committee of people to start looking at the one-to-one initiative and start studying it.
