Tolono Library seeking donation from Savoy for new roof
SAVOY — Tolono Library officials asked the village board this week for financial support for the library's recently replaced roof.
Savoy is in the Tolono library district, which also includes Tolono and Sadorus. Just over half of the library's cardholders are Savoy residents. The roof replacement was completed Nov. 1 at a cost of $97,500, well under the initial estimate of $107,000.
The project is nearly paid for, although the money has largely come from the library's reserves — leftover from the memorial donation that also paid for the building's construction in 1997.
The library board wants to recoup as much as possible to prevent depleting its reserve fund, which has roughly $203,000 in it.
The library has held several fundraisers as part of its "Raise the Roof" campaign, and it has also been promised $50,000 of tax-increment-financing revenue from the Tolono Village Board.
After the fundraising efforts and TIF money, $36,775 remains to be reimbursed. Library representatives asked the Savoy village board for a donation of $15,000 to $20,000.
Board members differed in their opinions about the donation, although most agreed they needed more information, such as the library's treasurer's report, which is not available on its website.
