Man to prison for aggravated DUI, possession of stolen vehicle

URBANA — An Urbana man who admitted that he was drunk at the time he drove off from a Rantoul gas station in a stolen truck has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Matthew Stroh, 24, who listed an address in the 700 block of Colorado Avenue, pleaded guilty last week before Champaign County Judge Richard Klaus to possession of a stolen vehicle and aggravated driving under the influence.

The charges stemmed from his arrest on Sept. 22. About 1 a.m. that day, Rantoul police received a report that a man had pumped gas at the Casey's General Store, 300 S. Century Blvd., then took off without paying.

Police finally got the truck stopped south of Rantoul. Stroh had been driving it. Police found he had a strong odor of alcohol and arrested him.

About a month after his arrest on those charges, Stroh was criminally charged with predatory criminal sexual assault for allegedly fondling a girl under the age of 13 in his home in Urbana in late July.

Those sex-related charges remain unresolved. He is scheduled to be back in court on that case Dec. 17.
