Bank robbery reported in Champaign
CHAMPAIGN — Police are investigating a reported bank robbery Wednesday afternoon in Champaign.
According to a Champaign police report, officers were called to PNC Bank, 1771 W. Kirby Ave., at 4:20 p.m.
Champaign Police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said a man entered the bank displaying a dark-colored handgun and demanded money from a teller.
The man then left the bank with cash and headed north on foot, possibly crossing Kirby Avenue.
“The suspect is described as a black male with glasses who appeared to be in his early to mid 30s,” Dunn said in a written release. “He was wearing a gray hooded zippered sweatshirt, a short-billed olive-green cap, dark-colored scarf, purple gloves, blue jeans, and light-blue-colored gym shoes with lime-green trimming.”
No injuries were reported. Dunn said seven employees were in the bank at the time of the robbery.
