Man robbed at gunpoint on UI campus

CHAMPAIGN — Police are investigating a Thursday evening armed robbery north of the University of Illinois campus.

According a police report, a man was returning to his apartment at 510 E. Stoughton St., C., at 6:28 p.m. when two men approached him. One placed his hand over the victim's mouth and a gun against his rib cage.

He reportedly grabbed the victim's backpack and told him to empty his pockets before ordering the victim to open his apartment door.

Both offenders entered and then ran out of the apartment.

Police are continuing to investigate. They ask that anyone with information call Champaign police at 351-4545 or Champaign County Crimestoppers at 373-TIPS (373-8477). Information can be sent anonymously at http://www.373tips.com or via text message by sending CCTIP and the information to CRIMES (274637).
