Rantoul man charged with child molestation

URBANA — A Rantoul man who allegedly molested a child over a period of years has been criminally charged.

Hector Rosas, 50, who listed an address in the 1200 block of Sycamore Lane, was charged Wednesday with three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony.

If convicted of all three counts, he faces penalties ranging from 18 to 90 years in prison.
State’s Attorney Julia Rietz said the case was investigated by Rantoul police, who arrested Rosas on Tuesday. He was located at the Champaign Police Department, where he was working for a janitorial service that cleans that building, she said.

The allegations against Rosas are that he repeatedly sexually molested the girl, the child of a friend, between 2005 and 2008, beginning when she was 8 years old. The girl is a teen now.

She was interviewed earlier this month at the Child Advocacy Center in Urbana, Rietz said.
