Shopkeeper slightly injured in Danville robbery

DANVILLE - Danville police are investigating an armed robbery on Monday at a Danville tobacco store that left the 54-year-old shopkeeper injured, according to Danville police.

Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said two men went into the Discount Tobacco Warehouse, 501 N. Vermilion St., shortly before 11:30 a.m. Monday, and according to the shopkeeper, one distracted him while the other hit him in the back of the head, knocking him to the floor. The attendant saw some type of firearm in the hands of the individual who hit him, according to Thomason.

The robbers ordered the attendant to give up an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, and then they ran from the business, according to Thomason. The attendant did not require medical treatment and sustained minor injury to the head and face.

According to Thomason, both robbers were described as male, black, 18 to 20 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 140 to 160 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 446-8477 (TIPS) or Danville police at 431-2245.
