Rantoul man no-show in court, sentenced to three years

URBANA — Authorities are looking for a Rantoul man convicted in September of molesting his neighbor.

Dean Chadwick, 54, of the 100 block of East Sangamon Avenue, did not show up Tuesday for his sentencing hearing as ordered.

Judge Harry Clem sentenced him anyway to three years in prison for criminal sexual abuse and unlawful restraint.

A jury convicted him in September of having inappropriately touched his 26-year-old neighbor's breasts, then holding her by the arm when she tried to leave.

The incident happened in his apartment on July 12, according to trial testimony. He had invited the woman to his apartment to eat ribs. The woman testified that she and Chadwick frequently shared leftovers and cigarettes.

Assistant State's Attorney Scott Larson said Chadwick had prior convictions for a sex-related felony from Utah, failure to register as a sex offender and driving under the influence.
