Parts of I-74 to be closed in C-U for night work

PARIS — The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that portions of Interstate 74, between I-57 west of Champaign and U.S. 45 in Urbana, will be closed at various locations the rest of the month for removal and replacement of sign trusses.

Weather permitting, lane closures will happen between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning.

The tentative road closure schedule is:

— Dec. 9: Between I-57 and Prospect Avenue eastbound.

— Dec. 10: Between I-57 and Prospect Avenue eastbound and between Prospect Avenue and Neil Street eastbound.

— Dec. 11: Between Prospect Avenue and Neil Street eastbound and between Neil Street and Lincoln Avenue eastbound.

— Dec. 12: Between Neil Street and Lincoln Avenue eastbound.

— Dec. 16: Between Cunningham Avenue (US 45) and Lincoln Avenue westbound.

— Dec. 17: Between Cunningham Avenue (US 45) and Lincoln Avenue westbound and between Lincoln Avenue and Neil Street westbound.

— Dec. 18: Between Lincoln Avenue and Neil Street westbound.

— Dec. 19: Between Neil Street and Prospect Avenue westbound.

Full road closures will be limited to 15 minutes per closure and will happen between midnight and 4 a.m.

All lanes of I-74 will be reopened the following morning by 5:30 a.m.

Message boards will be operating and the Illinois State Police will be out during the road closures.

The project has an anticipated completion date of Dec. 31, depending on the weather. The contractor for the $523,585 project is Collins and Hermann.
