Plans for Savoy McDonald's shelved

A long planned restaurant for the Village of Savoy is now off the table.

Village officials said McDonald's told them that it does not plan to build the restaurant in Savoy at this time.  The restaurant had been slated for an area just west of the CVS Pharmacy store at the corner of Dunlap Avenue and Curtis Road.  That area is the former home of Reliable Plumbing and Heating, which moved to Champaign.

The village said the fast food chain did not give a reason for pulling out of the project, which was initially included in 2011 plans that included the completed CVS and a grocery store.

The name of the grocery store had been kept quiet for quite some time, but according to details of the project on the Raufeisen Development website, Aldi is the grocery store that is planned for that area.
