Food pantry at Parkland College opens Wednesday

The Dean of Students at Parkland College in Champaign said a new food pantry at the school will give students an affordable and convenient way to stay full and focused.

Marietta Turner said the Wesley Pantry, which opens Wednesday, is important for students who are struggling financially and might not have time to practice healthy eating habits.

Turner also said when students aren't eating right, it can be difficult for them to be successful in school.

Turner added that the school doesn't have any concrete numbers as to how many students are going hungry but said she's gotten a lot of positive response from many students in need of a resource like the Wesley Pantry.

The Wesley Pantry at Parkland College is funded by donations, and groceries are purchased from the Eastern Illinois Foodbank. It's open the second Wednesday of each month from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the S Building.
