Government posts filled and vacant

Top government positions vacant or recently filled:

Urbana Fire Department — Interim Chief Brian Nightlinger is up for the appointment. He has 35 years of fire service experience, the last 15 of which were with the Urbana Fire Department.

Champaign Park District — Deputy Director Joe DeLuce was hired as executive director this week. He replaces Bobbie Herakovich, whose last day is Dec. 31 after 12 years at the helm.

City of Urbana Comptroller and Information Technologies Director — Rich Hentschel was approved by mayoral appointment earlier this month to replace Bill DeJarnette, who resigned in June after publicly denouncing the city hall work environment. DeJarnette had also been in charge of the IT duties; Sanford Hess was appointed Dec. 2 to take over that role. Matthew Dillon has been hired as deputy comptroller.

Champaign Fire Department — Fire Chief Doug Forsman retired last week after 50 years in fire service. After months of searching for a new chief, the city announced it would reopen its search after not finding the right candidate.

Urbana Free Library — Still does not have a permanent executive director after Deb Lissak left in September following a book culling controversy. Assistant director Kathy Wicks has been acting director in her place.
