Man must pay $40,000 restitution in aggravated battery case
URBANA — A Mahomet man who admitted cutting a man's face outside a Champaign bar earlier this year has been sentenced to probation and ordered to make restitution of several thousand dollars.
Michael A. Jordan, 31, who listed an address on Meadow Hill Lane, pleaded guilty Thursday before Judge Tom Difanis to aggravated battery, admitting that on Jan. 22, he slashed the side of the face of Anthony Vaughn, 48, of Champaign.
Assistant State's Attorney Troy Lozar said the two were fighting in the parking lot at Pia's Sports Bar & Grill, 1609 W. Springfield Ave., C, allegedly over Jordan's treatment of a woman who had been with Vaughn at the bar.
Jordan was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay $40,058 in restitution to Vaughn, who had no medical insurance, according to Lozar. The prosecutor said the cut to the side of the head seriously damaged Vaughn's ear. Jordan was given five years to make the payments to Vaughn.
Court records show Jordan has prior convictions for driving under revocation, driving under the influence and misdemeanor theft.
