Investigators seek cause of fire in rural Philo
PHILO — On Sunday, members of the Champaign County fire investigation team were still at the scene of a fire that destroyed a house in rural Philo. Nobody was reported hurt.
Philo Fire Chief Mike McHenry said firefighters were called to a home at 1480 County Road 600 N, about 2 miles southwest of Philo, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Philo Fire Department firefighters received mutual-aid assistance from Broadlands, Homer, Pesotum, Sadorus, Savoy and Tolono, McHenry said.
“When we arrived, we found flames coming from the roof on the northwest side of the house,” McHenry said. He said tanker trucks were brought to the scene.
McHenry said firefighters had the fire under control by 11 p.m. and remained at the scene until 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
According to McHenry, the Champaign County fire investigation team was brought to the scene Sunday to determine where the fire started and what the cause was.
McHenry said firefighters had not yet determined who owned the property, and he said it was too early to estimate a dollar damage for losses.
