Fired teacher due in court on Jan. 14

URBANA — A former Rantoul Township High School music teacher and band director will be served with a summons to appear in court Jan. 14 to be arraigned on two felony charges in connection with some photos he allegedly sent to a minor.

Champaign County State’s Attorney Julia Rietz said Bryan T. Reynolds, 26, who listed an address in the 400 block of West Curtis Road, Savoy, faces two counts of distribution of harmful materials. Both are Class 4 felonies punishable by one to three years in prison.

The charges allege that Reynolds sent photos depicting nudity to a person under age 18 on Dec. 11, 2012.

Rietz said the Rantoul Police Department collected evidence revealing that Reynolds allegedly used his cellphone to send two naked pictures of himself to a student who was under 18.

The Rantoul Township High School board voted at a special meeting on Monday night to dismiss Reynolds from his position as music teacher and band director.
