'Granting Wishes' underway for Gifford

GIFFORD — The process of accepting, sorting and wrapping gifts for the Granting Wishes for Gifford Christmas project is underway at Gordyville USA.

The project was started by Gifford native Brooke Billings. On her Facebook page, Billings challenged visitors to buy items on the Christmas lists of those affected by the Nov. 17 tornado that tore through the community.

Each challenge listed the gender, age and wish list of the child or adult. A donor would then accept the challenge and purchase the items listed.

Within hours, 145 were accepted.

In addition to the items donated for the challenges, Gordyville has tables full of donated toys, clothes, household items and gift cards. Anyone affected by the tornado may come to Gordyville from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday to shop for their loved ones.

Monetary donations or gift cards may be mailed or dropped off at Gifford State Bank through Friday.

For more information, contact Billings at (217) 898-0376.
