Something to get you going today, courtesy executive editor Jim Rossow:

Christmas Day is a holiday for movie-goers; eight new flicks came out Wednesday. Here are three to see — and one to skip — courtesy News-Gazette movie critic Chuck Koplinski, who as member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association and Chicago Film Critics Association gets a sneak peek at the movies before they hit area theaters.

"Secret Life of Walter Mitty"

Savoy 16, Carmike 13

Chuck says ... "It reinstills your faith in humanity and reminds you that life if worth living. This is a change of pace for Ben Stiller, as he comes across as far more human and sympathetic than he has in the past."

"American Hustle"

Savoy 16, Carmike 13

Chuck says ... "Best film of the year. It not only talks about how to get ahead in America today, it contains some of the best acting you'll likely see on screen this year. Jennifer Lawrence gives a devastating comic turn and steals every scene she's in."

Art Theater

Chuck says ... "Bruce Dern gives the finest performance of his career as a man who's convinced he's won a million dollars and sets out walking from Montana to Nebraska to claim in. Will Forte as his son decides to give him a lift and these two learn and come to appreciate each other in ways they never expected."

"47 Ronin"

Savoy 16

Chuck says ... "That movie's been done for two years. Paramount has already written it off as a loss. No studio has ever done that before and movie has come out."

I have noticed your columns have had absolutely no diversity in thought or approach. I know Chuck had a great review for the Nelson Mandela movie and it would have been very appropiate to include that as part of the movies to see. But inclusion just does not seem to be a part of the NG organization's culture.
