Man arrested for residential burglary

CHAMPAIGN — A Champaign man is being held at the county jail after police who were responding to a burglar alarm allegedly found him inside a house.

According to a Champaign police report, officers were called to a home in the 1100 block of South First Street at 3:12 p.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a burglar alarm going off there.

When they arrived, they allegedly found Jerry Hayes, 52, who listed an address in the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive, Champaign, inside the home with burglary tools.

Hayes was arrested on charges of residential burglary and possession of burglary tools and taken to the Champaign County Jail.

No other information was immediately available.
