Oakwood woman charged with stealing jewelry

URBANA — An Oakwood woman who allegedly stole cash and jewelry from a Champaign home she was hired to clean has been charged with felony theft.

Jodi Lane, 40, was arraigned Tuesday on two counts of felony theft alleging that she stole jewelry in June and again in early November from a woman living on Lakewood Drive in Champaign.

Lt. Curt Apperson of the Champaign County sheriff's office said the victim reported that a silver chain, pearl earrings, a diamond ring and a necklace, worth a total of about $680, turned up missing from her home after Lane had cleaned there.

Apperson said a deputy interviewed Lane in late November and she confessed to stealing the items.

A warrant was issued for her arrest on Dec. 4. She was arrested early Tuesday and arraigned on the charges Tuesday afternoon.

Judge John Kennedy set Lane's next court appearance for Feb. 4.

If convicted, she faces penalties ranging from probation to two to five years in prison.
