Winter storm bringing snow Wednesday
The National Weather Service says that a winter storm system is expected to bring some accumulating snow to East Central Illinois on Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Affected areas include Champaign, Coles, DeWitt, Douglas, Edgar, McLean, Moultrie, Piatt and Vermilion counties.
The snow is expected to affect areas north of Interstate 74 on Wednesday morning, with the snow gradually spreading from the northwest to the southeast during the day as the storm system shifts to the south.
The weather service expects between 1 and 3 inches of snow to be likely over most of the area, with higher amounts possible.
Travel is expected to become slippery during the day as the snow spreads.
The weather service expects light snowfall to continue Wednesday night before tapering off to flurries by Thursday morning.
Drivers should be prepared for slippery travel and should allow extra time to reach their destinations.
