Admitted office burglar gets probation

URBANA — An Urbana man who admitted he broke in a business office in the spring has been sentenced to four years of probation.

Tyler Duncan, 21, of the 300 block of Crystal Lake Drive, pleaded guilty Thursday before Judge Heidi Ladd to burglary, admitting that between April 26 and 29 he entered the office at 705 S. Glover Ave., U, intending to steal.

Assistant State's Attorney Dan Clifton said a safe containing a handgun and $150 cash was taken in the break-in. Clifton said co-defendant Devin Frisby, 20, a former employee of the business, implicated Duncan in the break-in.

In exchange for his guilty plea, two other cases charging Duncan with obstructing justice and consumption of liquor by a minor and aggravated battery and resisting a peace officer were dismissed.

Duncan was also fined $500 and ordered to make restitution with Frisby of $400 to the business.

Frisby's case is unresolved. He's due back in court Jan. 14.

Clifton said Duncan had prior convictions for retail theft.
