Urbana man arrested for cocaine possession

URBANA — An Urbana man is expected to be formally charged Wednesday with a drug crime after sheriff’s deputies found suspected cocaine and cash in his home Friday.

According to facts laid out in bond court Saturday for Champaign County Judge Richard Klaus, narcotics investigators from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant Friday at the apartment of Eddie Lee Washington, 29, in the 700 block of Colorado Avenue.

The found 8.3 grams of cocaine, a scale, plastic bags and $811 cash, including $30 worth of bills that had been recorded as buy money by the investigators.

Washington admitted to the investigators that he had been selling cocaine.

He is expected to be formally charged Wednesday. In the meantime, Klaus set Washington’s bond at $50,000, meaning he has to post $5,000 in cash to be released from the county jail.
