Some downtown Champaign streets to be closed for snow-pack removal

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign public works personnel will be closing some city streets this weekend in order to remove snow-pack from the downtown area.

Kris Koester, administrative services supervisor for Champaign public works, said that portions of Neil, Walnut and Main streets in the downtown area and University Avenue between Neil and Chestnut streets will be closed between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Saturday and again on Sunday.

Work crews will also remove snow-pack on side streets in the area as well as from city owned lots.

All vehicles parked by parking meters in the affected area must be removed by 2 a.m. on Saturday and again on Sunday, or they will be relocated, according to Koester.
