Champaign man admits sex abuse, receives probation

URBANA — A Champaign man who admitted sexually molesting a woman with whom he had a long-term relationship has been sentenced to 30 months of probation.

Scott Vanscoyoc, 34, whose last known address was in the 1100 block of Pomona Drive, pleaded guilty Tuesday before Judge Tom Difanis to aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Assistant State's Attorney Stephanie Weber said that on Aug. 29, Vanscoyoc and the 23-year-old Wellington woman he was seeing had arranged to meet at a motel on Bloomington Road in Champaign to have sex.

Once there, Weber said, Vanscoyoc slapped the woman, put her in a chokehold, removed her clothing, and touched her genitals for his own sexual gratification.

Three other counts of criminal sexual assault alleging different sex acts were dismissed in return for Vanscoyoc's plea. Weber said the victim agreed with the way the case was resolved. Vanscoyoc will have to register as a sex offender for life.

Weber said Vanscoyoc had prior misdemeanor convictions for resisting a peace officer, possession of cannabis, deceptive practices and theft.
