Champaign man sentenced in heroin case

URBANA — A Champaign man who had just under an ounce of heroin in his home last summer was sentenced Monday to five years in prison.

Charles E. Davis Jr., 23, whose last known address was in the 1500 block of Kings Way, pleaded guilty in early December to possession of between 15 and 100 grams of heroin.

He admitted to Judge Harry Clem that he had about 20 grams of the drug in his home on June 5. The drugs were found during a court-authorized search of the house done by Champaign County sheriff's detectives.

Assistant State's Attorney Scott Larson dismissed several other charges alleging Davis had a gun, cannabis and cocaine in the home.

The heroin possession conviction was Davis' first criminal conviction, court records show.
