Coroner identifies man who died in house fire in Farmer City

FARMER CITY — DeWitt County Coroner Randall J. Rice has identified the man who died in a house fire Tuesday afternoon in Farmer City.
Rice said that Justin R. West, 33, of Farmer City, was pronounced dead at his residence at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday.

Rice said that an autopsy will be performed on Wednesday in McLean County.

Personnel from the state fire marshal’s office were at the scene on Tuesday night to investigate the cause of the fire.

Farmer City Assistant Fire Chief Rick Hardesty said firefighters were called to single story house at 705 E. High Street in Farmer City at about 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Farmer City firefighters received mutual-aid assistance from the LeRoy Fire Department.

“When we got there, we saw a lot of smoke and fire in the front of the house,” Hardesty said.

Hardesty said it was too early to determine where or how the fire started or the dollar amount of the damage.

No firefighters were injured, Hardesty said.

The fire was under control by 4:30 p.m., he said.
