Updated: fourth person looking to run for Champaign mayor

The latest person to throw his hat in the ring for next year's Champaign mayoral election is focusing on his leadership skills and track record in governing.

Fifty year-old Joe Petry is the fourth person who's announced plans to seek the office.  Petry is the President of the Champaign Park District Board and a professor of economics and finance at the University of Illinois.

Meanwhile, Champaign's current mayor Don Gerard said that competition in the mayoral race is a good thing, and he hopes his record will speak for itself next year.

Petry joins current Champaign councilmembers Deb Feinen and Karen Foster as those who plan to challenge Gerard in his re-election bid.
