Fire destroys Cissna Park bowling alley
CISSNA PARK — Fire destroyed a bowling alley Saturday morning in Cissna Park, and the state fire marshal’s office is trying to determine the cause.
Joe Young, chief of the Cissna Park Fire Protection District, estimated that 35 firefighters from Cissna Park, Buckley, Loda, Rankin, East Lynn and Milford responded to the fire around 8:40 a.m. at Park Bowl Lanes, 110 W. Enz Ave., on the town’s north side.
Upon arrival, a large amount of smoke was could be seen coming from the north end of the bowling alley and fire coming from the building’s south end. Also, a garage on the building’s south side was engulfed, Young said.
“It ... destroyed the building,” Young said, estimating the fire caused damage “in the hundreds of thousands” of dollars.
The bowling alley, owned by Jarrod Warner of Wellington, was closed at the time, and no one was in the building, Young said. A passerby reported the fire, he said.
Young said no foul play is suspected, but he could not say yet what caused the blaze. An investigator for the state fire marshal’s office was at the scene early Saturday afternoon.
The fire was extinguished as of 1 p.m., Young said.
