ICC judges propose change to Ameren transmission line route

Some East Central Illinois residents who are fighting against a soon-to-be-built Ameren transmission line have scored a victory, albeit a preliminary one.

A portion of the line is slated to run through Douglas and Piatt counties, but some residents there said that route is not efficient and will be a blight on the natural landscape, among other things.

And late last week, a group of Illinois Commerce Commission Administrative Law Judges agreed, saying that a route running through Moultrie and Coles counties would be a better option.  The recommendation will now go to the full commission for final approval.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the transmission line project said Ameren has preferred routes but will ultimately build whatever the commerce commission approves.
