Rantoul man arrested for home invasion

RANTOUL - A Rantoul man remained jailed Saturday after his arrest Friday for allegedly forcing his way into an apartment in that village and beating a man there.

Assistant State's Attorney Stephanie Weber said Shaunte Adkinson, 31, who listed an address in the 1000 block of Eastview Drive, was arrested for a home invasion that allegedly occurred about 1 p.m.

Weber said a woman living in an apartment in the 1300 block of Juniper Drive reported two masked men wearing dark clothing forced their way in looking for the man living there.

The male resident ended up getting into a slug fest with the intruders in the hallway of the apartment. After he returned punches several times, they eventually fled.

Rantoul police had been summoned and got a description of the clothing the men had on. Not far away, they found Adkinson, Weber said.

The resident who was punched said the clothing Adkinson was wearing was the same as one of the intruders. Police arrested him. They were still investigating the role of the second intruder, Weber said.

The woman and children in the apartment were not hurt.

Judge Holly Clemons set Adkinson's bond at $100,000. He is expected to be formally charged Monday.
