Suspicious address on package leads to pot bust
URBANA - A Champaign man has been arrested after admitting he was the intended recipient of a shipment of about 11 pounds of cannabis.
Fidelmar Cadenas-Rosiles, 28, who listed an address in the 800 block of West Church Street, was arrested by Urbana police Friday in connection with the discovery Thursday of 11.5 pounds of cannabis at the Fed Ex facility in north Urbana.
Assistant State's Attorney Stephanie Weber said Fed Ex officials were suspicious of a package that came in Thursday because it was addressed to a non-existent place in Champaign. A check of the sender's information revealed a phone number not in service and another non-existent address, she said. Because the package could not be delivered, officials opened it.
After finding 11.5 pounds of cannabis, they contacted Urbana police.
Cadenas-Rosiles was arrested on Friday when he came to the Fed Ex office to collect the package.
Weber said Cadenas-Rosiles told Urbana police that he knew the package contained cannabis, that it was coming from California, and that he had been paid $1,000 to retrieve it.
Police said he cooperated with the investigation. He was arrested for possession with intent to deliver cannabis but was expected to be formally charged on Monday.
Cadenas-Rosiles was released from the county jail Saturday after posting $10,000 cash following bond court.
