Man arrested after suspected marijuana is found in an apartment

URBANA — A Champaign man is being held at the Champaign County Jail after police found more than 25 ounces of suspected marijuana in his apartment.

Matin Abdul Salehzai, 21, who listed an address in the 400 block of East Stoughton Street, Champaign, faces a charge of manufacture or delivery of cannabis when he appears in court today.

Salehzai is being held on $25,000 bond.

According to a police report, the University of Illinois street crimes division got a search warrant for Salehzai’s apartment as part of an ongoing drug investigation.

When they entered the apartment at 8:41 p.m. Saturday, they found a box containing 720 grams (25.39 ounces) of suspected marijuana in the kitchen. The box was labeled with Salehzai’s name on it, according to Assistant State’s Attorney Stephanie Weber.
Police also found $12,850 in a shoe box on top of the refrigerator and arrested Salehzai.

According to the report, Salehzai admitted to police he had been selling marijuana in the apartment for about a year. He told police he had about a pound of marijuana shipped to him every week from California.
