Some Danville homeowners can apply for free home repairs

Some Danville homeowners still have a few weeks left to apply for their chance to participate in a program that provides free home repairs.

Elderly, handicapped and low-income homeowners are eligible to receive the repairs, which include interior and exterior painting, porch and wheelchair ramp construction and other work.

First Presbyterian Church of Danville Reverend Jimmy Hopper said more 230 teenagers and adults will come from many different states to join with youth group members from the church to perform the work Jul. 7 through 11.

Hopper said the work means a great deal to the homeowners who are very thankful to have the help.

Hopper added that the workers will stay at Danville High School, with campers sleeping on the floor of the field house and eating in the cafeteria.

Applications for homeowners can be picked up at the First Presbyterian Church of Danville and at CRIS Senior Services. The deadline to apply has been extended to Feb. 21.  The number of homes selected for repairs is determined by the number of camp participants.

For more information, call the First Presbyterian Church of Danville at 442-0541.
