Meetings ahead on Monticello school facilities' upgrades

MONTICELLO — The second phase of community engagement is underway after the school board officially brought in St. Louis-based Unicom-Arc to help the district consider possible changes to its buildings.

Unicom was hired for $15,000 at a special school board meeting Jan. 21.

Superintendent Vic Zimmerman said a facilitation team was already being formed. That team will drive the community engagement process, which include public meetings regarding the future of Monticello school facilities.

The first phase of the engagement showed the school board that residents feel the high school should be the focus at this point.

That could include constructing a new building at an estimated cost of $35 million or renovating the current structure, which has an original build date of 1923.

Those wanting to be considered for the facilitation team can email Zimmerman at
