St. Joseph man charged with domestic battery

URBANA — An area school principal is due back in court on March 14 following his arrest for domestic battery.

Brian L. Hatfield, 42, who listed an address in St. Joseph, was charged on Jan. 21 with domestic battery involving physical contact and domestic battery involving bodily harm.

Arthur-Lovington school board President Steffanie Seegmiller said on Tuesday evening that Hatfield remains the principal at Arthur-Lovington Junior-Senior High School.

According to an Urbana police report, Hatfield and his wife had an argument in a parking lot in the 1800 block of Cunningham Avenue, Urbana, at 1:23 a.m. Jan. 18.

The report alleges that, after she hit him, he hit her multiple times, choked her, threw her in the back of the car and drove away.

People in the parking lot tried to intervene and reported it to police, according to Urbana police Sgt. Dan Morgan.

Morgan said that police stopped Hatfield’s car on Interstate 74 headed eastbound toward St. Joseph.

The report said the woman had a cut on her head.
