Updated: winter storm watch issued for East Central Illinois

A winter storm watch has been issued for Ford, Iroquois, Champaign, Vermilion, DeWitt, Piatt and Macon counties in effect from Friday night through Saturday afternoon.

The National Weather Service says snowfall will begin Friday and continue into Saturday.  For some areas to the north, the snow will turn to a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain early Saturday.  Rain is also in the forecast for those areas on Saturday afternoon.

Between five and seven inches of snow and one-quarter inch of ice are possible throughout the region.  In Champaign-Urbana, meteorologist Greg Soulje reported that two to four inches is possible.  You should be careful while driving, make sure you have weather supplies in your home and car and check on pets and the elderly.
