Woman sentenced to probation for burglary plea

URBANA — An Urbana woman who admitted she entered a store in that city intending to shoplift has been sentenced to 30 months of probation.

Dejacqueline Chatman, 31, whose last known address was in the 1300 block of Ivanhoe Way, pleaded guilty Tuesday before Champaign County Judge Harry Clem to a single count of burglary, admitting she went in Walmart, 100 S. High Cross Road, U, on Aug. 21 intending to steal.

Another charge of retail theft stemming from that arrest was dismissed as was a separate case of residential burglary alleging that Chatman took items from the home of a neighbor on Jan. 10, 2014.

She was also sentenced to 28 days in jail but given credit for time served. She also was ordered to get a substance abuse evaluation and perform 50 hours of public service.

Court records show Chatman has prior convictions for obstructing justice and theft.
