No serious injuries in 3-car crash on I-74

URBANA — No one was physically hurt but three vehicles were heavily damaged in a late morning crash Friday on Interstate 74 near Cunningham Avenue.

A release from Illinois State Police at Pesotum said Nancy Benko, 21, of Champaign, was driving a Ford Ranger west behind a small car when she decided to pull into the passing lane to pass it.

Benko then hit a pickup truck in the passing lane, driven by Jordyn Rahn, 20, of St. Joseph, sending it into the median wires. The impact of that collision sent Benko's car back into the right lane, where she hit the car she was attempting to pass, driven by Carolyn Long, 67, of Middletown, Ohio.

Benko was ticketed for improper lane usage.

The accident happened at 11:50 a.m.

All the drivers were wearing seatbelts.
