Paxton council OKs engineering costs

PAXTON — The Paxton City Council authorized spending up to $10,000 for engineering services that will bring water and sewer services to two lots in the Westview subdivision on the city's west side, southwest of the high school. Engineer Larry Johnson said he will provide a "potpourri of services" that includes securing state environmental permits that can take up to three months.

The lots are contiguous to the city and by previous agreement the city is obliged to provide the utilities. Johnson's work will also prepare for the extension of water by 2016 and sewer if necessary to supplant septic systems by 2018 to three homes built after 2007 when the subdivision was platted outside the city limits.

One home will be built sometime this year and the other in the next several years. The subdivision now lies within the city's year-old tax increment financing district.

Also the council accepted property at the southern boundary of the Cambridge subdivision deeded to the city by Robert Moore for dedicated public right of way. Moore is building a house there and plans to offer no lots south of that line for home building.
