3 treated, released in I-57 crash

Three people were treated and released when a car hit them after one vehicle went into the median on Interstate 57 and a second stopped to check on the driver of that car.

According to a state police report, Elmer Ray Nichols, 63, from Mayflower, Ark., was driving a 2000 Dodge pickup truck south on I-57 about five miles north of Rantoul at 8:06 a.m. Tuesday when he went off the road and into the median. Thomas M. Badgley, 34, and Jennifer Badgley, 27, both of Paxton, stopped to check on Nichols.

As the three were out of their vehicles, a 2009 Ford Focus driven by Brian J. Zimmerman, 26, of Champaign lost control and slid off the road onto the shoulder, hitting the three and the Badgleys' car.

The Badgleys and Nichols all were treated and released from Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Zimmerman, who was wearing a seat belt and not injured, was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions.
